The only exception I know of is for Atheros currently, the firmware / driver versions do reflect the differences between vanilla and dd-wrt custom. Wi-fi firmware version is not the driver code, or more specifically, the driver version doesn't necessarily reflect any patches done to the driver in the source code, especially for another related driver. It doesn't reflect in the wifi firmware in dmesg. I did compare the wifi driver/firmware versions and they are the same for builds 46979 & 47033 so want changed, the kernel from 4.4.273 to 4.4.274 fixed it? I updated the R7000 and also noticed much better wiifi performance.
